As a Sensual Yoga guide, I am often asked - what is the difference between Sensual Yoga and Yin Yoga? Although there are many similarities between the two practices, there are some key differences. Let's talk about it...


Yoga is a practice that has been around for thousands of years and has evolved into many different styles and forms. Two popular styles of Yoga that have gained attention in recent years are Sensual Yoga and Yin Yoga. Although the asanas ( physical poses ) are similar in both practices, they differ in intent, execution, and experience.


Commonly, Yin Yoga is a slow-paced style of Yoga, incorporating principles of Chinese Medicine and Taoist philosophies with Asanas that are held for longer periods of time. Yin Yoga is intended to stretch and deepen you into poses while increasing the flow of Qi ( the life-force energy that runs through our bodies ). Sensual Yoga inherently does all of the aforementioned; however, Sensual Yoga's intention expands beyond creating physical space within your body, and lands in the world of sensory pleasure. Its intention ( although not limited to ) is to deepen your relationship with your sensuality, sexual ( creative energy ), pleasure, and breath.
